Immigration
to the US can be a complex process but you can reduce complications
by educating yourself on the process of obtaining a visa to US.
Hundreds of thousands of people each year are looking to immigrate
to the US either permanently or temporarily. Each year the rules and
regulations for acquiring a visa increase in an effort to protect
both citizens of the United States and those who are visiting
temporarily.
If
you are looking into US
immigration
procedures and acquiring a visa
to the US,
the following information will provide you with tips on where to
begin. Keep in mind if you are outside of the US the procedure is
different than if you are already in the US. Here we will cover
immigration from an overseas country.
Types
of Visas for Immigration
First
you should be aware that there are two basic types of visas
to the US
which include a visa for permanent residency and temporary visas
which are used for students, visitors, business professionals, temp
workers, and other people who have a legitimate reason to be in the
United States for an indefinite period of time.
Immigration
to the United States to reside there permanently requires you to be
sponsored by a party already in the United States. This can be a
family member who is a US citizen or a company who plans to employ
you once you are approved for a visa to the US.
Affidavit
of Support
US
Immigration
requires that you show proof that you will be able to support
yourself once you are in the US. This requirement means you must
fill out an Affidavit of Support form which is accomplished by your
sponsor who also takes care of your Immigrant Petition. The
Affidavit of Support can be submitted by a family member or employer.
As long as it proves financial support then the document will be
seriously considered by the Department of State.
Diversity Lottery Visa Program
If
you happen to reside in a country that has low immigration
numbers to the United States you can qualify to enter the DV Lottery.
If you are a winning entrant then you will be eligible for a visa
to the US
but, you must then follow all of the procedures required by US
Immigration
in order to successfully receive your visa.
Visa
Interview
US Immigration
laws
require that you go through an interview in order to obtain your visa
to the US. Make sure you understand the interview process well in
advance of your interview. You have a little over one month after
you receive notice of your interview appointment so make good use of
the time. Organize all necessary documentation from your sponsor in
advance of the interview and prepare yourself well for the interview.
Remember
that the consulate is pressed for time, so the more organized and
prepared you are the better your chances of being taken seriously for
immigration.
Preparation in advance means you should be able to provide clear and
truthful answers to all of the questions. Once you receive your visa
to the US
check it for accuracy to ensure there are no errors and remember the
date of expiration.
